There is often a rich back story to these places and why I love this journey as
an artist. Each work is inspired by a memory I want to capture. When I paint a
river I think of the smell of fish on my hands, the water in my shoes and those
teal blue dragon flies and as the river bends abruptly back and forth, I know for
a moment I am a part of it.
Many of these paintings reflect the cultural ceremony of man’s deeper
connection to this vernacular and the rituals of the Navajo, Pueblo and Northern
New Mexican Hispanic world. I find the rhythm in the landscape is tied to
ancestral song and the cadence of footsteps responding to rain and to drums, all
becoming one and the same.
For hundreds of years, a direct connection to the earth is honored by its
inhabitants becoming part of its story and so much part of the mythic aspect of
this landscape. Like many of my exhibitions, I offer a spectrum of works that
reflect the diversity of my worlds. I have included some large scale abstractions
and some California paintings. I find each place I have lived, has given me
something I can create from and this adds to the diversity of much of the work.
If you look, there is a common rhythm in each painting that connects it together
as one story, tied to something mythic and magical and mine.
