Hands of Enchantment - Page 44

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Burnes’s process consists of
finding objects to which he is drawn—and uncovering the
meanings that they hold for him. Stainless-steel bars and wire
give final form to his compositions, which are fashioned from
such natural materials as stone, rocks, and weathered wood.
Very much living works, Burnes intends for his pieces to be
transformed by the elements to which they are left exposed: “I
am drawn to the connection between time and decay. My works
purposefully age and evolve as they age; the rust and natural
elements contrast with and complement each other. I intend for
these works to look both ancient and modern.” Burnes’s work
has been widely exhibited and has been featured in numerous
public and private collections.
